Faculty Advisor: Susan Farrington
The SWANS Organization is a constituent of the National Student Nurses Association and California Student Nurses Association and practices shared governance. SWANS are student nurses uniting together to convey the standards and ethics of the nursing profession, to become responsible and accountable members of the nursing profession, to advocate for high quality, research-based, affordable and accessible healthcare to the community, to strengthen the efforts of each individual student through mentoring, and to develop into students who are prepared to lead the profession of nursing in the future. Meetings are every other week on Thursdays from 6pm-7pm which are the following dates: February 16th, March 1st, March 15th, March 29th, April 12th, and April 26th. On May 3rd, we will be having our new board elections. (The only meeting dates that are not 2 weeks apart will be April 26th and May 3rd, due to the elections.
Feeling overwhelmed? Wish you had the opportunity to learn from another student? Need someone to assist you with study skills? Come to a Peer Tutoring Session!
More information to Come.
The Peer Mentoring Program coordinates partnerships between beginning and advanced nursing students and facilitates communications between both parties. It is through these partnerships that we hope to foster a peer-centric dialog that will aid in the student's transition from program entry until the beginning of their fourth semester. Critical thinking, providing direction to resources, clinical best practices, organization and study skills, as well as enhancing student self-esteem are emphasized.
The Peer Mentoring Program also actively enlists student volunteers to become Peer Tutors, providing an added resource for nursing students.
All nursing students are encouraged to become involved in their campus and community. To find information about the different campus organizations, please visit the Student Government Association website.
