Board Highlights August 2012
Mt. San Jacinto College will close for two weeks during winter and a week in the spring after the MSJC Board of Trustees approved a revised district academic calendar during its meeting on Aug., 23 2012.
The calendar was revised to reflect 12 furlough days that the administration, management, supervisory, confidential and classified staff agreed to accept because of the ongoing state budget cuts to the college. The furlough days equate to a 4.6 percent reduction in salary.
Previously, students did not attend classes during the winter and spring breaks. The furloughs were added to those breaks to minimize disruption to the students and to maximize the savings on utilities and other costs while the college is closed.
During public comment, several faculty members told the Board they hoped the District would consider their proposal for contract negotiations.
