Mt. San Jacinto students and staff were among those that took aim at a dunk tank target during the Student Government Association’s fundraiser and barbeque on Thursday, May 10, at the Menifee Valley Campus.
About 10 professors were good sports as they sat patiently – and a little nervously – above a tank containing more than 300 gallons of cold water set up at the campus’ quad area during College Hour.
During the two-hour event, large fluorescent green softballs were hurled toward the tank’s target, with many successful hits. Tina Vandewater, who works in the Office of Instruction, did not play favorites as she dunked several professors with her perfect pitch.
Student Oscar Miranda was able to put English department chair Ricki Rycraft into the water on his third try. He is a member of the iStudent program, which trains student mentors to work with peers to connect them to campus services and programs and also organizes helpful workshops.
A similar activity was held at the San Jacinto campus on Tuesday, May 8, with all profits benefitting the SGA scholarship program. At a recent student recognition, $600 in scholarships were distributed among deserving students, according to Sandi Uhrig. As interim advisor for SGA, she said she is always pleased when these events draw such a large crowd.
