MSJC Board Actions December 2013
December 13, 2013
Mt. San Jacinto College Trustee Ann Motte was elected as President of the board during the annual MSJC Board of Trustees organizational meeting on Dec. 12, 2013. Trustee Dorothy McGargill was chosen clerk of the Board. Mrs. Motte has served on the board since 1992. Mrs. McGargill, who served as president of the board in 2013, has served on the board since 2004.
During the regular meeting, the Board accepted an independent audit for 2012-13. The auditors found no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses. Heidi White, principal auditor with Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co., told the Board that the report is very good for MSJC.
The Board approved ratification of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the California School Employees Association Chapter 767. The CSEA represents the classified staff. The MOU includes furlough and step restorations.
The Board approved restoring the 4.6 percent cut in compensation that the Board members took last year. The Board took the cut to show solidarity with classified staff and management, confidential, supervisory and administrators who took pay cuts in the form of furlough days to offset ongoing state budget cuts and payment deferrals to community colleges. The passage of Prop. 30 and other economic improvements throughout the state allowed the pay restoration to all groups.
Dr. Patrick Schwerdtfeger, vice president of Instruction, and Charles Hawkins, associate dean of research, presented the board with the Student Success Scorecard that is required by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
Dr. Schwerdtfeger and Pat James, dean of library, technology and distance education, introduced @ONE Director Micah Orloff and faculty members John Seed, Kelly Billingsley and Belinda Heiden Scott, who shared an overview of the Distance Education program with the board.
