MSJC's Newest Facility Opens on First Day of Fall Semester

August 19, 2014

The new Temecula Higher Education Center opened on the first day of the fall 2014 semester to welcome students to the facility that represents a unique partnership between Mt. San Jacinto College, Cal State University San Marcos – Temecula and the city of Temecula.

MSJC student Brianna Ranger, a military veteran from Lake Elsinore, was among the first group to start earning an associate’s and a bachelor’s degree in business from MSJC and CSUSM – Temecula in just four years.

“I thought it was really convenient that all the classes would be together. They’ve set it all up for me,” Ranger said.

The Temecula Higher Education Center, dubbed THE Center, is home to the Business Degree Program developed by CSUSM – Temecula and MSJC. Students will complete the program together as a cohort. They will save time and money as classes are guaranteed.

Ranger is one of the 14,266 students district-wide who enrolled for the fall 2014 semester at MSJC. The first day of the fall semester went smoothly for THE Center and at all of MSJC’s locations: the San Gorgonio Pass, San Jacinto and Menifee Valley campuses and the Temecula Education Complex on Enterprise Circle West.

The headcount is up from 13,800 students in the fall of 2013. MSJC is offering more classes and filling more seats compared to the same period last year, thanks to strategic planning by its instructional division.

CSUSM senior Danielle Barnett and her father, Jeff, couldn’t wait to check out the new facility. They came early to get familiar with the new classrooms.

Under an agreement, MSJC is leasing the former city hall for $1 a year from Temecula. Jeff Barnett called it a great use for the building. He praised the city for attracting higher education to the region.

Danielle, a business major, said she was excited to take classes in the new facility.

“It’s really cool that Mt. San Jacinto College and Cal State San Marcos are working together to get students through faster and more efficiently,” Danielle said of the Business Degree Program. If the program would have been offered when she first started “I would have done it,” she said.

THE Center is located at 43200 Business Park Dr. Temecula and offers the Business Degree Program and high demand classes like English. The Temecula Education Complex, located at 27447 Enterprise Circle West in Temecula, also offers classes and student services like counseling.

MSJC, a comprehensive community college that is part of California’s 112-community college system, has been serving students for more than 50 years.  A single college district, MSJC serves a 1,700-square mile area from the San Gorgonio Pass to Temecula.
