Noted drummer David Hitchings will be featured with the MSJC Golden Eagle Big Bands as they present their 4th Annual Jazz Artist Series concert. Directed by Bob Waner, the March 3rd performance will be held in the Theater of the San Jacinto Campus, 1499 N. State St., San Jacinto, at 2:30 PM. The MSJC bands have entertained audiences with the best in big band jazz for almost 30 years.
Hitchings graduated from Hemet High School in 1982. He played drums for three years with the award winning Hemet High Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jeff Tower. Following Hemet High, Dave studied with Terry Blackley and Jim Linahon at Fullerton College and played in the Fullerton College Jazz Band. David then moved to Los Angeles, playing in Bill Yeager's Jazz Workshop, a training ground that has produced some of LA's greatest jazz musicians. While in LA, Dave studied with Steve Houghton and Gregg Bissonette.
The drummer has backed famous entertainers from Carol Channing, Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra, Jr. to jazz greats Carl Saunders, Wayne Bergeron, Andy Martin, Lanny Morgan, Bob McConnell and Pete Chrislieb. In 1988 Dave joined the prestigious Woody Herman Orchestra (under Frank Tiberi's direction), for the final leg of a US tour. David appeared in the movie, Miracle Mile, on the soundtrack of Dream for an Insomniac, and has recorded numerous albums. His own solo CD Passion Voyage, features Dave playing keyboard on eleven of his own original compositions.
