Six Mt. San Jacinto College students will sing, dance or entertain their way into the hearts of judges in hopes of winning scholarships during the 3rd annual MSJC Foundation gala next month.
The students were selected this week from a pool of about 50 who auditioned to perform at the Feb. 12 “An Evening With Our Stars” gala.
Like hopefuls at an American Idol audition, the students lined up outside the theaters at the Menifee Valley and San Jacinto campuses with guitars, violins, backup music discs and other accessories during the two-day auditions. They practiced their songs, tuned their strings and went over moves while awaiting a turn to audition before a group of judges that included fellow students, faculty and staff members.
The six selected present a wide variety of talent and skills:
- Zaneta Tiggett, Hemet - vocalist
- Sarah Fegel, Hemet – pianist /vocal
- Matthew Avina, Hemet – Guitar/vocal
- Wilson Hong, Temecula - Dancer
- Ali Tousi, Menifee – Classically trained pianist
- Carey Pickford, Temecula – Juggler
A panel of judges at the gala will select winners, who will receive either a $1,000, $500 or $250 scholarship.
With an elegant dinner, silent auction, dancing and the theme “Rainforest Rendezvous,” the gala promises guests and sponsors a fun way to support MSJC students and programs. The annual gala is the Foundation’s signature event to raise scholarship funds, money to support faculty grants and other endeavors that benefit the college and its students.
Cocktail hour entertainment will include animals indigenous to the rainforest, as well as a spectacular performance with Polynesian and Fire/Knife dancers!
This black tie optional event begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula.
