Prerequisite: None
Through lectures, readings, movement studies, and video analysis, this beginning study of choreographic theory, history and practice emphasizes the analysis of dance as an art form through the elements of space, shape, motion, time and energy. Students will complete a series of short, choreographic assignments through which they will be encouraged to develop a personal dance aesthetic and unique choreographic voice. Choreographic forms and principles will also be introduced. This course meets a requirement for the dance major, CSU/UC transfer, MSJC graduation in humanities or physical education, and is for any student interested in the art of making dances. May be taken twice for credit.
