Special Projects
Special Projects in GIS (GEOG 299) are coordinated between student and a supervising instructor. Students should consult with MSJC faculty about a proposed project design, goals, objectives and number of units needed to complete the project. Once a contract has been created and signed by both parties, and circulated for approval by Deans and Administrators, the student may enroll for the agreed upon number of units.
Typically, special projects enhance student learning experience in the GIS program by focusing on one aspect of GIS that a student wishes to become proficient in. In this way, a student is able to demonstrate advanced skills in a particular area. Special projects are commonly research or application based. As such, they may be used for professional conference presentation, are suitable for research thesis exploration or to hone a student’s interest in preparation for university transfer.
Special projects present an opportunity for students to collaborate with faculty on a specific research problem. They present an opportunity for students to demonstrate excellence in a specific area of research, both academic and work related, while working with a faculty mentor.
