


GIS Certificate
The 18 unit GIS Certificate and Associate in Science (AS) Degree program is designed to prepare students for entry into a career in generalized or specialized applications of GIS. The GIS Certificate program provides students with a strong foundation in geographic concepts for designing spatial models with digital data. Students learn technical and analytical skills for research involving GIS and practical skills necessary to enter the job market as a GIS Technician, GIS Specialist, GIS Analyst, GIS Programmer, GIS Coordinator, GIS Supervisor or GIS Manager.
Recommended Preparation Advisory before beginning GIS courses:
Introduction to Computer Information Systems or working knowledge of Microsoft Windows programs.Required GIS Courses (12 units):
GEOG 105 - Introduction to Cartography 3 units
GEOG 115 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems 3 units
GEOG 120 - Intermediate Geographic Information Systems 3 units
GEOG 125 - Advanced Geographic Information Systems: Applications 3 units
Concentration Areas: An additional 6 units within one of the following concentration areas (refer to current schedule for course offerings).
