Baseball Team Falls Two Games Back of Grossmont
The MSJC baseball team couldn't get their bats going on Tuesday in El Cajon as they lost a key Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game to Grossmont 6-0.
The Griffons started the game fast as they scored single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. Two more runs in the third, one of which was unearned put the Eagles behind the eight ball as they trailed 4-0 after three. MSJC starter Zevon Benoit finished his day throwing 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs. Alec Escalante pitched the final two innings for MSJC giving up just one run.
The Eagles hitters had a hard time getting on track and only managed five hits on the afternoon. JT Brown, Jake Pulcheon, Ben Moreno, Mauryse McClellan, and Steven Ybarra each picked up one hit. Pulcheon had a double for MSJC's only extra base hit on the day. Grossmont starter Alan Strong went 7 innings allowing just one hit while striking out 7.
The loss makes MSJC 19-15 overall on the season and 15-7 in PCAC games while Grossmont improved to 24-10 and 17-5. The Eagles are now two games behind the first place Griffons with two games remaining between the two teams this week. MSJC will host Grossmont on Thursday and then will wrap up the regular season on Friday when they return to El Cajon. Thursday and Friday's games are both set to begin at 2 pm.
