Baseball Team Falls to 0-2 With Loss at Pasadena

The MSJC baseball team took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning on Tuesday, but couldn't hold on as they lost on the road to Pasadena City College 7-4.

The Eagles got RBIs from Abraham Rascon, Steven Ybarra, and Brock Partain on the afternoon but were limited to just six hits in the game by PCC pitching.  MSJC did strike first when they scored a run in the top of the second when Partain doubled home Luke Reinert.  PCC quickly answered with a run of their own in the bottom half and the took the lead 2-1 with another single run in the bottom of the third.  MSJC took the lead back in the top of the fifth when they scored three times on a Rascon double, an Ybarra single, and a wild pitch.  The Lancers however, chipped back into the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning and then reclaimed the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth, before tacking on two insurance runs in the 8th.

Ybarra finished the day as the only Eagles with more than one hit, he went 2 for 3 with a walk.  Reinert and Anthony Garcia each also picked up a hit for MSJC.  On the mound the Eagles used four pitchers on the day, Michael Gomez took the loss out of the bullpen going just 2/3 of an inning allowing a pair of earned runs.  Brendon Russell was the starter, he went 4 and 2/3 innings allowing just 1 earned run on six hits while striking out 3 and walking none.  Jordan Ewig and Thomas Montes also each got some work out of the pen for the Eagles.

MSJC is now 0-2 on the season after a loss on Saturday to East LA.  The Eagles do have a suspended game pending from last Friday.  MSJC leads Cerritos 7-6 heading into the ninth inning of that game.  The contest will be completed on February 21st when the Eagles travel to Cerritos for a previously scheduled game.

The Eagle are right back in action today when they host El Camino at 2 pm.
