The MSJC baseball team had five players honored today when the 2015 All Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Team was announced, led by First Team selections Kash Mattson and Nick
Mattson, a sophomore catcher and designated hitter from Riverside Poly High School, led the PCAC in hitting this year with a .404 batting average. Mattson also led the team with 24 RBIs and 19 walks. Mattson's 19 walks was third best in the PCAC and he also crossed the plate 26 times and had an on base percentage of .467. Gonzales a freshman outfielder, also from Riverside Poly HS, hit .329 overall for the season, but stepped up to hit .366 in conference play and drove in 8 runs.
Zevon Benoit, Johnny Valdez, and Brian Dezern each were named Honorable Mention All Conference. Benoit, a freshman pitcher from West Des Moines (IA) Dowling Catholic HS, threw a team high 48 1/3 innings on the season and had an earned run average of 3.72. Benoit struck out 26 batters on the season while only walking 8. Second baseman Valdez led the Eagles in runs scored and extra base hits in 2015. Valdez, who is a sophomore from Hemet High, batted .287 and had 15 RBIs with 1 homerun, 4 triples, and a team high 10 doubles. Dezern who played shortstop for MSJC this year, is a freshman from Palm Springs High School. Dezern finished the season with a .311 batting average and drove in 19 runs, he was also second on the team in doubles with 8.
MSJC finished the season with an 11-25 overall record and went 9-15 in conference play.
