Baseball Team Opens Conference Paly With a Win
The MSJC baseball team used a big fourth inning on Saturday to beat Imperial Valley in their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference opener 8-5.
Chris Wolford and Justin Lawler split the pitching duties with Wolford going 4 and 2/3 in the start an Lawler going the final 4 1/3 in relief. Wolford allowed 5 hits and 4 runs, 3 of them earned runs with two strike outs, while Lawler shut the door allowing just one run.
The Eagles blew the game open in the top of the fourth when they scored five runs to take a 7-2 lead. Ben Moreno had a good offensive day with 2 hits, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Mauryse McClellan added a pair of RBIs and Johnny Valdez had 2 hits and an RBI in the win.
The victory gives the Eagles an overall mark of 3-10 on the season and they are 1-0 in PCAC play. MSJC will be back in action on Tuesday when they host San Diego Mesa. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
