Baseball Team Takes 2 of 3 From Palomar
The MSJC baseball team continued to play solid baseball last week as they took two of three from Palomar who entered the series tied for first place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
The Eagles took game one of the series on the road Tuesday as they beat the Comets 11-10 in 10 innings. The Eagles controlled the game for 8 and a half innings, before Palomar rallied for six runs in the ninth to force the extra inning. In the 10th MSJC scored twice to reclaim the lead and then pitched their way out of a jam to win it. Rigo Cano had two hits and two RBIs in the win while Jordan Santa Cruz had a big day with two hits and four RBIs. As a team MSJC had 15 hits including three from Luke Reinert.
In the middle game of the series at San Jacinto on Thursday the Eagles fought back to take a brief 6-5 lead after rallying for five runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Palomar quickly answered and took control of the game in the 8th with a five run inning leading the Comets to a 14-8 win. Shane Mittleman had a strong offensive game for MSJC as he had two hits and 4 RBIs while Brian Woolford added a pair of hits and drove in three.
In the rubber game of the series the Eagles battled back from a 5-0 deficit to win 9-6 in San Marcos. MSJC scored four runs in the top of the fifth, two in the 6th and then three in the top of the 9th to pull off the comeback win. Trevor Castillo was the offensive star for the Eagles as he drove in a career high 6 runs for MSJC on a pair of doubles. Landon Myers and Victor Picazo were strong out of the bullpen allowing just one run in four innings of relief.
The wins improved the Eagles record to 9-6 in PCAC play on the year, they are now 10-20 overall. MSJC will play a three game series this week against Southwestern. Tuesday and Saturday's games will be on the San Jacinto Campus while Thursday's game will be in Chula Vista. Game times for Tuesday and Thursday are 2 pm while Saturday's game will start at noon.
MSJC's Trevor Castillo had 6 RBIs on Saturday as the MSJC baseball team beat Palomar 9-6 to take the three game series against the Comets 2-1. The Eagles will be back in action this week with home games Tuesday and Saturday and a road game on Thursday.
