The MSJC baseball team got a near complete game from Austin Bowker on Tuesday as they defeated visiting San Diego City College 7-3 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game.
The Eagles jumped out to a first inning lead when Joseph Favela picked up his first of two RBIs on the day with a sacrifice fly scoring Markalexander Gamo. San Diego would score twice in the top of the third to take a brief 2-1 lead. Favela evened the game up with another sac fly in the bottom of the third, this time scoring Jeremy Schreiber.
MSJC then scored 5 unanswered runs in the 6th, 7th, and 8th to pull ahead for good. Johnny Valdez scored the go ahead run on a hit from Kyle Mead and an error by the Knights, then Schreiber drove in Mead as the Eagles went up 4-2 after six. In the seventh MSJC added one more when Johnny Walls scored on a San Diego error. Valdez and Manny Mendoza capped off the Eagles scoring in the 8th as they each drove in a run.
San Diego added one final run in the top of the ninth with two outs and it was the end of the day for Bowker. Bowker went 8 and 2/3 innings striking out 4 and walking 5 on his way to his third victory of the season. Zac Tapia came on to get the final out for the Eagles.
MSJC improved to 9-10 on the season with the win and are now 4-3 in PCAC play. San Diego City fell to 5-11 overall and 3-4 in conference action. These two teams will play again on Thursday in San Diego at 2 pm and wrap up the three game series on Saturday at MSJC at noon.
