Baseball Team Wins at Mesa
The MSJC baseball team took control of the game in the 4th inning on Thursday and cruised to a 7-2 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference victory at San Diego Mesa.
The Eagles trailed after the first inning 1-0, but scored four times in the top of the 4th when Anthony Garcia tripled with the bases loaded to drive in three runs and Mauryse McClellan scored Garcia in the next at bat. MSJC would add three more runs in the top of the ninth to give themselves some breathing room. In the 9th, Josh Minder, Nick Gonzales, and McClellan each drove in a run for the Eagles.
Zevon Benoit went the distance on the mound for the Eagles allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4 over 9 innings of work. The pitching victory gave Benoit his league high 8th win of the season.
Minder finished the game with 3 hits for the Eagles, while Jake Pulcheon and McClellan had 2 hits each. Puchelon and Minder both scored twice for MSJC in the victory.
The Eagles improved to 16-13 overall with the victory and are now 12-5 in PCAC games. Mesa dropped to 9-19 overall and 5-12 in conference. The Eagles have 7 games remaining in their regular season and currently are tied for second place in the conference with Palomar who is also 12-5 in the PCAC. MSJC and Palomar are both even in the loss column with Grossmont, who currently leads the league at 15-5.
MSJC and Mesa will conclude their season series on Saturday when they Eagles host the Olympians at noon on the San Jacinto Campus.
