Eagle Baseball Completes Three Game Sweep of IVC

The MSJC baseball team picked up a three game sweep over Imperial Valley this past week, winning at home on Tuesday and twice in a doubleheader at IVC on Friday.

The Eagles opened the series with a strong pitching effort from A.J. Villa as he worked six shut out innings on Tuesday to help MSJC to a 7-0 win.  He got help out of the bullpen from Brendon Russell who went the final three innings in relief.  Villa and Russell combined to allow 9 hits in the game while Villa struck out 8.  On the offensive side of the ball Abraham Rascon went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with a walk while Michael Alonzo drove in two runs.  Brian Wolford and Brock Partain added an RBI each in the win while Marino Rojas scored two runs.

In the first game of Friday's doubleheader MSJC once again got some strong pitching as they beat the Arabs 5-1.  Nick Harding went the distance for the Eagles as he allowed just the one earned run on 7 hits, he struck out three and walked just two.  Rojas, Alonzo, Rascon, and Steven Ybarra had RBIs for MSJC.  Sonny Garcia scored a pair of runs for the Eagles while Ryan Wimmer also crossed the plate in the win.

In the final game of the series the Eagles bats came alive as they pounded out 20 hits in an easy 13-3 win.  Rascon continued his red hot streak at the plate as he went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs to lead the way.  Armondo Andrade went 5 for 5 at the plate for the Eagles while Garcia and Gerald Harris each drove in a pair of runs.  John Paul Arellano picked up the pitching victory as he went five innings allowing just one run.  Thomas Montes and Russell came out of the pen to pitch the final four innings.

The three wins improved the Eagles record on the season to 8-27 overall and 5-16 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play, while Imperial fell to 3-33 and 1-20.  The Eagles have this week off before concluding the season next week with a three game series against San Diego City.  MSJC will host the Knights on Tuesday (4/25) and Friday (4/28), they will travel to San Diego on Thursday the April 27th.
