Eagle Baseball Team Opens Season With 6-4 Loss

The MSJC baseball team kicked off their 2015 season on Tuesday with a 6-4 loss to Saddleback in Mission Viejo.

The Eagles fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but rallied to score twice in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead when Kash Mattson singled and Bryan Derzer scored on a throwing error.  Jevon Evans scored the Eagles second run on an outfield error by the Gauchos.  Saddleback would regain control of the game in the bottom of the fifth when they scored two runs and added 3 in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead to 6-2.  MSJC would make one last run at the Gauchos in the 9th when they rallied for two runs when Johnny Valdez scored on a wild pitch and Derzer scored on a sacrifice fly by J.T. Brown.

Dylan Fisher took the loss on the mound for MSJC as he threw 4 plus innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out one.  Derzen finished the game with 3 hits for the Eagles and Mattson finished with two.

The Eagles now 0-1 on the season continue their busy first week of action when they travel to Rio Hondo on Thursday.  MSJC will also be on the road Friday when they travel to Mt. SAC and Saturday when they visit East Los Angeles.  The Eagles home opener is scheduled for Tuesday February 3rd when they host Riverside at 2 pm.
