Eagle Baseball Team Wins 2-1 at Citrus
The MSJC baseball team won a pitcher's duel on Tuesday as they picked up a 2-1 victory over Citrus College in a non-conference game in Glendora.
Both teams were frustrated at the plate by solid pitching until the top of the sixth when the Eagles were finally able to push across a run when Ben Moreno singled to centerfield to score Jake Pulcheo. MSJC increased the lead to 2-0 in the top of the ninth when Mauryse McClellan drove home Moreno on a fielder's choice. The Owls only run of the day came in the bottom of the ninth, but they could not get the tying run across the plate.
Zevon Benoit went the distance on the mound for the Eagles to earn his second win of the season, allowing 8 hits and walking just one while striking out a career high 12. Moreno finished the day with 2 hits, and RBI, and a run scored. Bryan Derzern also picked up two hits for the Eagles.
The win improved MSJC's season mark to 3-4, while Citrus fell to 4-3-1. The Eagles return to action on Thursday when they travel to Mt. SAC for a 6:30 PM contest.
