Eagle Baseball Team Wins Final Home Game

The MSJC baseball team got a complete game from starting pitcher Chris Wolford on Thursday as they defeated San Diego City 2-1 in their final home game of the season.

The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the first inning when Kash Mattson hit an RBI single to right field scoring Mauryse McClellan.  Wolford did not allow the Knight to score a run until the top of the fifth when Gabriel Santana scored on an RBI bunt single by Kyle Golden.  The Eagles responded to reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the fifth as Johnny Valdez drove a triple to straight away centerfield scoring Javon Evans, who had singled earlier in the inning.

From that point on Wolford controlled the game shutting out SD City the rest of the way.  Wolford finished the day allowing just 5 hits and striking out 6 while walking none he did hit three batters.  Wolford finishes the season with a mark of 4-3 on the mound.  Mattson ended the day as the only Eagle with 2 hits as MSJC had 8 on the day.

The win improved the Eagles overall season record to 11-24 they are 9-14 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference games while the Knights fell to 13-19 and 7-16.  The same two teams are scheduled to play Friday in San Diego at noon in the final game of the season.
