Baseball Team Sees Three Game Win Streak Snapped
The MSJC baseball team got off to a quick start on Tuesday, but couldn't hold off Palomar in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference loss in San Marcos.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Nick Gonzales doubled to left field to score Josh Minder and JT Brown. MSJC was able to hold the lead through three innings, before the Comets scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-2 advantage. The Eagles got it back to 5-3 in the top of the sixth when Brown singled through the left side to score Mauryse McClellan, but that would be as close as MSJC would get. Palomar had a big bottom half of the sixth, scoring 5 runs to secure the victory.
Brown and McClellan each finished the game with two hits for the Eagles. Brett Martin took the loss on the mound for MSJC as he went 3 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, it was Martin's first loss of the season as he record slipped to 3-1.
The Eagles are now 11-11 overall on the year and 7-3 in PCAC play, the Comets improved to 13-11 and 8-4. This key conference series continues on Thursday when MSJC will host Palomar at 2 pm on the San Jacinto Campus. The two teams will conclude their season series on Saturday back in San Marcos at noon.
