The MSJC baseball team picked up a 3-2 win on Saturday over host San Diego Mesa in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game.
The Eagles scored the first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning when Nick Gonzalez drove in Bryan Dezern on a ground ball to short. Mesa answered by scoring their only two runs of the game in the bottom half of the fifth off MSJC starting pitcher Gabe Greenbank, only one of the runs was earned. The Eagles would score the winning run in the top half of the 7th when Kash Mattson scored on a Gonzalez single to tie the score and Travis Larmond scored the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly by J.T. Brown.
Greenbank finished the day going four innings on the mound allowing just the one earned run, while Brett Martin came in from the pen to throw 5 shut out innings to earn the victory. Martin surrendered just 2 hits while striking out 3 and walking one. Mattson finished the day with 3 hits for the Eagles while Dezern and Daniel Fernandez each had two.
The win pushed the Eagles to 9-15 overall on the year and 7-5 in PCAC play while Mesa fell to 11-12 and 6-6. MSJC had this week off before playing Grossmont in a three game series starting Tuesday March 31st. The Eagles will host the Griffons on the 31st at 2 pm.
