MSJC Baseball Team Tripped up by SD City
The MSJC baseball team could not get their offense going on Tuesday and lost a home Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game to San Diego City 5-1.
The Eagles scored the game tying run in the bottom of the 8th inning, but then saw the Knights score four times in the top of the 9th to come away with the victory. SD City took the lead in the top of the fourth and the game remained 1-0 until the 8th. In the 8th it was Anthony Garcia who drove home Jake Pulcheon to tie the score at 1-1. In the 9th the Knights were able to go ahead on an infield single before a two run bases loaded single by John Salda made it 4-1. One more single by Frank Lopez would make it 5-1 and MSJC could not respond in the bottom of the 9th.
Garcia finished the game with 3 hits for the Eagles while Ben Moreno had two. Pulcheon and JT Brown added a hit a piece for the Eagles, who only managed 7 hits on the day. Brett Martin (4-2) threw 8 solid innings for MSJC before he ran into trouble in the 9th when he gave way to reliever Jeramy Smith. Martin was charged with 3 runs as he gave up 11 hits while striking out 2.
The loss makes the Eagles 17-14 on the year and 13-6 in PCAC games while the Knights improved to 15-12 and 10-8. The same two teams will meet again on Thursday in San Diego and then wrap up their series on Saturday here at San Jacinto.
