Eagle Football Ready to Kick Off Saturday

The Eagles enter the 2016 season with high expectations and a nice mix of freshmen and sophomores as they look to improve on last year’s 5-5 record.  MSJC finished 2015 with a 4-3 mark in the American Mountain Conference.  The LuLuWilliam-webpreview.jpg
conferences were realigned this past off season and the AMC this year will consist of Southwestern, San Diego Mesa, San Bernardino Valley, College of the Desert, Victor Valley, and the Eagles.

In 2016 the Eagles defense returns four starters from last year’s team headlined by William LuLu (Miami, Florida), Thomas McCraw (Murrieta Mesa HS), and Darwin Anderson (West Valley HS).  Anthony Adcock Jr. (Heritage HS) looks to join LuLu and Anderson for a formidable group at linebacker.  Carl Bates (Murrieta Mesa HS), Jose Cera (Dallas, Texas), and Sam Chamberlin (Hampton, Virginia) will join McCraw up front to anchor the defensive line.

The defensive back field will be led by a group of newcomers including Bob Stengel Award Winner Lanii Jackson-Barrow (Tahquitz HS).  He will be joined by Dimitri Gallow (Valley View HS), D.J. Reed-Samuel (Rancho Verde HS), and Trent Johnson (Lansing, Michigan) along with a host of other first yearEagles.

On the offensive side of the ball MSJC returns three starters from a year ago.  The offensive line will be led by sophomore center Xavier Perez (Norte Vista HS).  He will be joined up front by a host of local newcomers including Ryan Shorter (Banning HS), Hunter Guertin (Heritage HS), Isikeli Akau (Rancho Verde), Chris Estrella (San Jacinto HS), and Grant Hatch (Murrieta Valley HS).

The backfield will feature freshmen newcomers; Allen Makarov (San Jacinto HS), Jomari Becnel (Hampton, Virginia), and Noah Kimbrough (San Jacinto HS).  These three will look to share the duties at running back during the 16 season.

Jake Newton (Paloma Valley HS) returns at quarterback after starting 8 games last year for the Eagles.  He will be joined by University of Virginia transfer Corwin Cutler.

The wide receiving core will feature returning players Elijah Brown (West Valley HS), and Laquan Washington (Blufton, S. Carolina).  Newcomers Mike Reed (Newark, New Jersey), Kefa Cort (Brooklyn, NY), and James Duff (Washington D.C.) will also look to be on the field this Fall.
