Eagles Beat Compton for Second Straight Win
The MSJC football team scored first and never trailed in the game on their way to a 44-32 win over visiting Compton College on Saturday.
Cejay Ceniza (Las Vegas, NV) got the scoring started for the Eagles when he picked off a pass and returned it 17 yards for the first touchdown of the day just 5:30 into the game. Quarterback Nigel Barksdale (San Jacinto HS) and running back Franex Dort (Lakeworth, FL) both had rushing tds in the second quarter as the Eagles built a 21-6 lead. Barskdale hooked up with wide out Zack Kinney (West Valley HS) on a 3 yard pass with just 3 seconds remaining before half to send MSJC into the locker room with a 28-14 lead.
Dort added two more second half touchdowns as the Eagles cruised to the victory. Defensive tackle Kyle Patterson (West Valley HS) had a big day on defense with 3 sacks and 7.5 tackles for negative yardage. Dort finished the day rushing for 150 yards while Barksdale added 88 yards on the ground.
The win pushed the Eagles record to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in Mountain Conference action. MSJC will travel to San Diego Mesa next Saturday for a 6 pm game.
