Football Team Wins Second in a Row
The MSJC football team used all three phases of the game on Saturday to win for the second straight week as they won on the road at LA Southwest 35-14.
The Eagles scored on their opening drive of the day when Semaj Wren rumbled across the goal line from two yards out. The Eagles extended the lead to 8-0 with a two point conversion. Early in the second quarter MSJC would find the end zone again when quarterback Brett Virgil ran on in from 15 yards out. LA Southwest did block the point after and the Eagles led 14-0. Virgil then connected with James Phillips on a 13 yard pass to push MSJC's advantage to 21-0 in the second period. The Eagles were not done however before halftime as a one yard run by Nejon Burns extended the lead to 28-0 at the half.
The Eagles finally gave up a touchdown midway through the third period to allow Southwest to cut the score to 28-7, but MSJC responded by returning the ensuing kick off 90 yards for a TD. It was Phillips again as he took it to the end zone to push MSJC's lead back to 28 points at 35-7. Southwest would add a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final scored 35-14.
The win pushed the Eagles record to 2-0 on the season. MSJC will host Grossmont next Saturday September 15th in their 2018 home opener. Kick off on Saturday at Carl Quandt Stadium is scheduled for 1 pm.
