The MSJC football team saw some positive things happen Saturday night, but it wasn't enough to grab their first win of the season falling to San Bernardino Valley College 33-12.
The Wolverines struck first in the opening quarter scoring the game's first touchdown, but the Eagles turned it into points of their own when they blocked the extra point try and Robert White scammpered 90 yards to make the score 6-2. After another SBVC score and blocked point after the score stood at 12-2. The Eagles then were able to capatilize on a Wolverine fumble that gave MSJC the ball at the SBVC 5 yard line. On third down quarterback Collin Wigley was able to run it in from 5 yards out and after John Babcock added the extra point the Eagles had cut the lead to 12-9 with 11:27 to go in the half.
A couple mistakes late in the half led to two Wolverine touchdowns and the score at the half was 27-9 in favor of SBVC.
The second half was a defensive battle with niether team finding the end zone. John Babcok kicked a 26 yard field goal early in the third quarter to cut the lead to 27-12, but that is as close as the Eagles would get. SBVC was able to add two field goals of their own in the final 20 minutes to round out the scoring.
Anthony Washington led the Eagles ground game gaining 53 yards on the night, as a team the Eagles threw for 152 yards including a fake punt in which punter John Babcock completed a pass.
The Eagles who fell to 0-5 on the season 0-3 in Foothill Conference play will be back at home this Saturday October 13th for the annual Homecoming game against Mesa College. Kick off is set for 1 pm at Carl Quandt Stadium.
