MSJC Football Loses Another Heartbreaker

The MSJC football team lost 46-43 at East Los Angeles Saturday night, marking the fourth straight one possession game the Eagles have lost this year.

Saturday night the Huskies scored the winning touchdown with 14 seconds left in the game on a 21 yard pass play.  MSJC had retaken the lead just 33 seconds earlier when Zach Chesser scored on a 30 yard run to give the Eagles a 43-39 lead.

The game started quickly for MSJC as Chesser hooked up with Vanel Dossous on a 73 yard touchdown pass just 2 minutes into the game to give the Eagles the lead.  Dossous would strike again just 4 minutes later when he returned a punt 52 yards to give MSJC a 13-0 lead.  ELAC was able to get their first score of the day late in the first quarter on a 15 yard run by Randolph Will.  The Eagles offense continued to have a big day as Eddy Williams scored on a 38 yard run with just over 30 seconds remaining in the first and MSJC led after one quarter 19-7.  Jaron Johnson added a 50 yard TD on a pass from Chesser in the second quarter and after a couple Huskie TDs the
Eagles led at halftime 27-19.

ELAC made it a two point game with the only score of the third quarter when Will had a 53 yard run to cut the lead to 27-25.  The Huskies took their first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter when they scored on a 25 yard pass play to make it 32-27.  With 9 minutes to go in the game the Eagles cut the lead to 2 on a 30 yard field goal by Bret Cronenewett.  East LA pushed the lead back out to 9 with 4:11 left on a 2 yard run by Joseph Garcia, but then the Eagles would rally.

With just 1:15 to go in the game Chesser scored on a 1 yard run to make it 39-37 East LA.  Cronenwett then made a successful onside kick to give MSJC the ball back, setting up Chesser's 30 yard run and giving the Eagles a brief 43-39 lead.  The Huskies then went 52 yards in 5 plays on the winning drive.  Still MSJC had one last shot to send it into overtime, but missed a 49 yard field goal attempt as time ran out.

The loss drops the Eagles to 3-6 on the year and 2-4 in American Mountain Conference action while East LA improved to 3-6 and 2-4.  MSJC has lost 4 straight games by a total of 16 points.

Chesser finished his day going 17 for 28 for 274 yards while Williams had 32 carries for 202 yards on the ground.  Darian Porter had a team high 11 tackles for MSJC while Ray Golden had an interception.

The Eagles will conclude their season next Saturday when they travel to Palm Desert to take on COD in the Annual "Palms to Pines" trophy game.  Kick off Saturday night is set for 6 pm.
