The MSJC football team bounced back from a rough opening week loss to defeat Glendale 43-30 in a non conference contest at Glendale.
The Eagle offense which was held to just 60 yards last week came out strong producing 503 total yards in the win. The Eagles took the lead early in the second quarter when Vanel Dossous caught a 35 yard touchdown pass from Jake Newton. Glendale scored just two minutes later to cut the lead to 7-6, but on their extra point attempt MSJC blocked the kick and C.J. Parker ran it back 98 yards to push the MSJC lead to 9-6. Glendale tied the game with a field goal, before Don'yae Hopkins put the Eagles back on top with just 2:23 to play in the half on a 13 yard run. The explosive second quarter wasn't over yet however as Glendale evened the game once again on a 20 yard pass play with just over a minute left before the break. The Eagles fired back just before halftime as Elijah Brown caught a Newton pass with just 11 seconds to play in the second quarter and took it 36 yards for a touchdown making the halftime score 22-16 Eagles.
MSJC took control of the game in the second half, pushing their lead to 29-16 when Laquan Washington scored on a 20 yard TD pass from Newton with 10:16 to play in the third quarter. The MSJC defense stepped up to help put some distance between them and the Vaqueros when they recorded a safety with 4:45 to play in the third. Then just 50 seconds later Newton threw his fourth touchdown pass of the day this time to Marlon Archer for a 45 yard strike and the Eagles led 37-16 heading to the fourth quarter. Glendale would score 14 straight points to pull within 37-30 with 8 minutes remaining, but Hopkins second touchdown run of the day with 3:26 left put the game out of reach pushing MSJC's lead to 43-30.
Newton finished his day going 26 for 41 passing for 387 yards and 4 touchdowns. Dossous and Brown both caught a game high 8 passes for over 100 yards each. Hopkins finished the night with 22 carries for 95 yards to go with his two touchdown runs. C.J.
