Victor Valley Ends MSJC Three Game Football Win Streak

The MSJC football team ran into a strong passing game on Saturday at Victor Valley and saw their three game winning streak come to an end with a 42-15 loss to the Rams.

Victor Valley scored on the first possession of the game with a 20 yard pass play that capped a 6 play 74 yard drive to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.  VVC would extend the lead 14-0 when a Ram receiver fumbled a ball into the end zone, but he was able to jump back on the ball for the touchdown.  The Eagles first points of the day would come early in the second quarter when Ram quarterback Sam Allen was called for intentional grounding in his own end zone resulting in an MSJC safety.  The Rams however would score on two more long drives in the second to push their lead to 28-2 with 3:04 to play before half.  MSJC's first offensive points of the day came with just :25 to play in the half when Jake Newton hit Elijah Brown for a 5 yard touchdown pass.  An Eagle two point conversion failed and it was 28-8 Rams at the half.

Victor Valley would continue to extend the lead in the third quarter adding two more touchdowns to lead 42-8 at the end of three.  MSJC back up quarterback Vitu Chilongo connected with Brown for an 80 yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter for the last points of the day with 13:47 to play.

Newton finished the day throwing for 164 yards, going 16 for 38 with a TD and two interceptions.  Chilongo went 5 for 10 for 129 yards through the air with a touchdown.  Both teams defenses were stout against the running game as the Eagles ran for just 19 yards in the game and the Rams managed just 65 yards on the ground.  Vanel Dossous had 6 receptions to lead MSJC.  Jevon Gooden led the Eagle defense with 8 tackles while Wesley Scott had 2 sacks.  John Hauso and Devin Pearson each added a sack in the loss.

MSJC dropped to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in American Mountain League play, while VVC improved to 7-1 and 4-1.  The Eagles have two games remaining, both at home, starting with Saturday's contest against East Los Angeles.  Saturday's game at Carl Quandt Stadium will kick off at 1 pm.
