Big Second Half Carries Eagle Men to Victory
The MSJC men's basketball team overcame a bit of a slow start on Friday night by scoring 62 points in the second half on their way to a PCAC North home win over MiraCosta 103-82.
The Eagles who were coming off back to back losses for the first time this season struggled through a first half that saw them make just 14 of 40 shots from the field, they did connect on 8 three pointers however to stay in the game trailing by just one 42-41 at the break. In the second half it was a different story as the Eagles made 21 of 33 shots over the final 20 minutes and capitalized on some solid team play picking up 14 assists on their 21 field goals to out score the Spartans 62-40.
Justin Holiday led the Eagles in scoring with 23 points, while Jared Hyder had a huge game with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 assists. David Thompson and Deshawn Millington each scored 14 points a piece for MSJC, Thompson also dished out a game high 10 assists.
The win got the Eagles back on the winning track after suffering a pair of losses last week to San Bernardino and Desert. MSJC is now 4-2 in PCAC North play and improved to 19-4 overall on the season. The Eagles will travel to San Diego to take on Miramar on Wednesday night at 5 pm. MSJC will also be on the road Friday when they travel to Palomar College.
