Eagle Basketball Explodes in 2nd Half to Beat Palomar
The MSJC men's basketball team got off to a rocky start on Friday night, but recovered to scored 64 points in the second half on their way to a 97-71 home PCAC North win over Palomar.
The Eagles trailed by as much as 14 in the first half, before rallying to cut the Comets lead to just 35-33 at intermission. MSJC then took complete control of the game in the second half to remain unbeaten in conference play as they out scored Palomar 64-36 over the final 20 minutes. The Eagles were on fire from the field in the second half as they connected on 24 of 35 shots from the field including going 7 for 14 from beyond the three point line.
Lenzell Simmons came off the bench to spark MSJC as he scored a team high 18 points, 9 of which came on three straight possessions when he connected on three consecutive three point goals to put the game out of reach. Deshawn Millington added 17 points while David Thompson had 16 points and Justin Holiday scored 14 points. Luka Filipovic had a game high 11 rebounds.
The Eagles who are currently ranked #3 in the State improved to 18-2 overall with the win and 3-0 in PCAC North action. Palomar fell to 6-14 and 0-3. MSJC will travel to San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday night for a showdown with the Wolverines who will enter the contest also 3-0 in conference play and 16-5 overall. Wednesday's game tips off at 5 pm in San Bernardino with the MSJC women's game to follow at 7.
