Eagle Basketball Team Makes it 5-0 Start

The MSJC men's basketball team traveled to Bakersfield for a pair of games this weekend and came away with two more victories as they defeated Cuesta and the host Renegades.justinholiday-18-19.jpg

On Friday MSJC kicked off their trip with an 83-67 win over Cuesta.  The Eagles took control of the game early as they built a 36-20 advantage by halftime.  MSJC's defense smothered Cuesta in the opening 20 minutes as they held the Cougars to just 6 of 31 shooting.  It was then the Eagles offense that kept things going in the second half as they cruised to the victory.  Four Eagles scored in double figures led by a game high 25 points from Deshawn Millington.  David Thompson added 20, Luka Filipovic had 14 and C.J. Hyder scored 10 points in the win.  Justin Holiday came off the bench to grab a game high 10 rebounds, while Millington also led the team in assists with 4.

Saturday MSJC had another big start as the jumped out to a commanding 49-22 lead over Bakersfield at the half.  This time five Eagles reached double figures in scoring as Holiday led the way with a double double as he scored a team high 18 points and pulled in 11 boards.  Filipovic just missed his double double as he had 16 points and 9 rebounds, Millington had 14 points while Hyder had 13 and Lenzell Simmons recorded 11 points.  Thompson dished out a team best 5 assists for the Eagles.

With the two wins MSJC is now 5-0 on the season and will play their first home game of 2018-19 on Wednesday.  Wednesday night the Eagles will host Fullerton College who will come into the game with a record of 3-1.  Fullerton came into the season as the pre-season #4 ranked team in the State while MSJC checked in at #9.  Tip-off on Wednesday is set for 7 pm.



​MSJC's Justin Holiday grabbed 21 rebounds in two games and had a double double against Bakersfield this weekend as the Eagle basketball team won twice to improve to 5-0 on the season.  MSJC will have their first home game of the year on Wednesday night at 7 pm when they host Fullerton.
