Eagle Basketball Team Opens Fullerton Tourney with Win
The MSJC men's basketball team opened the Fullerton College Tournament on Wednesday night and came away with a 69-65 win over College of the Canyons.
The Eagles led most of the way as they held a 32-27 halftime lead and were able to build it to as much as 13 in the second half. In the game MSJC had 10 different players score at least 2 points and 11 players pull in at least 2 rebounds.
For the fourth game in a row the offense was led by Davon Sanders who scored a game high 18 points, he also grabbed 6 rebounds. C.J. Hyder coming off the bench for the first time this year responded with 14 points. Terrance Williams also reached double figures in scoring as he had 11 points to go along with a game high 5 assists. Jeremy Bonifacio led the Eagles in rebounding with 7.
The win evens the Eagles record on the season at 2-2 while Canyons falls to 1-2. MSJC will be back in action on Friday when they take on the tournament host Fullerton squad who won on Wednesday over Chaffey. Friday night's game will already be the fourth time the Eagles have taken on a team who was ranked in the CCCMBCA pre-season poll, Fullerton will come into the game at 3-1 on the year and ranked #8 in the State and #5 in the South Region. MSJC opened the year ranked #11 in the South. Friday's game tips off at 7 pm.
