Eagle Basketball Team Takes Third at SD City Tournament
The MSJC men's basketball team went 2-1 for the second straight weekend as they took third place in the San Diego City Knights Invitational.
The Eagles opened the weekend with a 105-91 win over Oxnard on Friday night. Sam Williams scored a game high 32 points to lead the way. Pee Wee Gardner came off the bench to add 24 points and 9 assists, while Alan Palesano made 5 three pointers to scored 15.
Saturday night in the semi-finals MSJC ran into a hot shooting San Diego City team and fell 88-76. Gardner was the Eagles top scorer on Saturday with 22 points while Williams had 20 and Blake O'Donnell added 12 and 10 rebounds.
MSJC rebounded on Sunday afternoon as they had a strong first half as they easily defeated Citrus 93-75 to win the third place game. The Eagles used a balanced attack Sunday as five players reached double figures in scoring led by Williams 18, he also grabbed 11 rebounds. Gardner had 17 and 8 assists, while O'Donnell and Tre Hunter both scored 14. Austin Klug also reached double digits with 12.
For his efforts over the three games Williams was named to the All Tournament team. The Eagles are now 4-2 on the season and will play their first home game of the season on Saturday. Saturday MSJC will host Saddleback in a 3 pm game.
