Eagle Men's Hoops Pulls Away to Easy Win
The MSJC men's basketball team picked up a conference home win on Wednesday night as they used a strong second half to beat visiting College of the Desert 96-65.
The Eagles led by 8 at the end of the first half 40-32 as both teams struggled to make shots in the opening 20 minutes. MSJC found their rhythm as evening went on and ended the night going 34 of 71 from the floor as they pulled away in the final 10 minutes of the contest. The Eagles also had a sizable advantage on the boards as they out rebounded the Roadrunners 55-33.
Davon Sanders led the MSJC offense with 21 points he also grabbed 4 rebounds and had 4 blocked shots. C.J. Hyder came off the bench to add 16 points and 7 rebounds, he made three 3 point shots on the evening. Olabanji Osinaike also was strong off the bench as he recorded a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. A.J. Walton also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. The Eagle bench combined for 45 points on the night.
The win improves MSJC to 11-12 overall on the year and 3-1 in PCAC North games while Desert fell to 1-16 and 0-4 in conference play. The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they travel to conference leading San Bernardino Valley for a conference showdown. Friday's game is part of a doubleheader with the MSJC women's team. The women's game Friday will tip-off at 5 pm with the men's game to follow at 7.
