Eagle Men Earn Key Conference Win
The MSJC men's basketball team held off a strong effort from San Diego Miramar on Saturday afternoon to earn a 75-70 win over the Jets at home.
The Eagles used a solid shooting first half to gain themselves a 37-34 lead and then dominated the glass in the second half to hold on down the stretch for the victory. MSJC had chances in the second half to pull away from the Jets, but Miramar hit some key shots in the final five minutes to keep the game close. The Eagles had three players reach double figures in scoring in the victory led by Tre Nottingham who tied for game high honors with 20 points. Nottingham also grabbed 8 rebounds and had 4 assists. Mat Bradshaw came off the bench to add 16 for MSJC on the 4 of 6 shooting from the three point line. Jaryn Taylor also reached double digits with 11 points in the game, he also had 8 boards. Jeremy Bonifacio also contributed to the victory with a game high 11 rebounds.
The win pulled the Eagles into a second place tie with Miramar in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division standings at 4-2. MSJC is now 18-10 overall on the season while the Jets fell to 18-7. The Eagles have four games remaining in the regular season and both they and Miramar are two games behind first place San Bernardino Valley in the conference race.
MSJC will be at home the next two Wednesday nights and on the road the next two Friday's to round out the regular season. The Eagles will begin the final stretch of the season when they host Palomar this Wednesday night at 7 pm.
