The MSJC men's basketball team won three games at the Riverside Holiday Tournament this past week, before losing to #3 ranked Saddleback in the Championship game.
The Eagles opened with a 84-80 win over LA Trade Tech and then played one of their best games of the season on Thursday as they defeated Chaffey 82-57. In the Chaffey game Samuel Williams led the offense with 26 points, he also pulled in a team high 10 rebounds. Pee Wee Gardner added 14 points and 6 assists off the bench and Tre Hunter had 12 points.
Friday MSJC opened up a big lead early and then held off an LA Pierce run to defeat the Brahmas 89-74. Williams again led the offense with 20 points while Roosevelt Adams added 15. Blake O'Donnell had a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Gardner and Hunter both reached double figures again this time with 12 and 11 respectively.
Saturday night's championship was a struggle for the Eagles as they went cold from the field especially in the first half. MSJC shot just 6 for 31 from the field in the first 20 minutes and also went 2 for 6 from the free throw line. The Eagles did battle until the end but came up short against Saddleback 69-57. O'Donnell finished the night as the Eagles top scorer with 16, he also grabbed 10 boards. Williams finished with 11 and Nikko Turner just missed double figures with 9.
Williams and O'Donnell both were named to the All Tournament team for their efforts over the four games. The Eagles are now 11-4 and have an extended break, before playing College of the Desert January 3rd in Palm Desert.
Blake O'Donnell helped MSJC to the championship game of the Riverside Holiday Tournament as the Eagles went 3-1. He along with Samuel Williams both earned all tournament team honors. MSJC is now 11-4 on the year and will play again on January 3rd.
