Eagles Open RCC Tourney with Victory
The MSJC men's basketball team overcame a seven point halftime deficit on Tuesday night to defeat Compton 83-72 in the opening round of the 2015 RCC Holiday Tournament.
The Eagles had a hard time keeping Compton off the offensive glass in the first half and fell behind the Tartars 42-35 at the break. MSJC found it's offensive rhythm in the second half and ended the night with four players scoring in double figures as they outscored Compton 48-30 in the second 20 minutes. Carl Brown came off the bench to lead the Eagles with 20 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Brown went 4 of 6 from behind the three point line. Roosevelt Adams scored 16 points for MSJC in the victory and Devin Fleming and Tre Nottingham had 11 points each. Nottingham scored all 11 of his in the final 19 minutes of the game. Nick Pete pulled in a team best 8 rebounds for the Eagles.
The win was MSJC's sixth in a row and improved the Eagles record to 9-1 on the season. MSJC will be right back in action tonight when they take on Chaffey in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Tonight's game is a rematch between the two teams who met just five days ago in the championship game of the Hemet Valley Kiwanis Hoops and Crops Tournament. Last Friday the Eagles were able to out last the Panthers and came away with a 90-81 victory. Tonight's game at Riverside tips off at 5 pm.
