The MSJC men's basketball team pushed their winning streak to 16 on Friday night and stayed unbeaten in conference play as they beat visiting Mira Costa 81-59.
The Eagles started a little slow on sophomore night, but put it together late in the first half as Dwayne Benjamin hit a three pointer with just two seconds left before the break to give MSJC a 35-27 lead. Six Eagles, (Benjamin, Carlos McCormick, Mark Ware, Dajuan Smith, Danny Hopkins, and Cameron Johnson) were playing in their final regular season home game and they put it together nicely in the second half as they out scored Mira Costa 46-32 in the second 20 minutes to put the game away.
The Eagles, who are currently ranked #2 in the state, won their 16th straight game and improved to 22-3 overall on the season while pushing their record to 6-0 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play. The Eagles hold a one game lead over Grossmont in the PCAC North Division race with two games left to play in the regular season.
On Friday night Sam Williams led the MSJC's offense with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Benjamin added 17 points and 9 rebounds while Smith also reached double figures with 11 points, he also grabbed 9 rebounds.
The Eagles have two remaining regular season games and both are on the road. Wednesday MSJC travels to Miramar and Friday the Eagles go to El Cajon to take on Grossmont.
