The fifth ranked MSJC men's basketball team won two of their three games over the weekend at the Bakersfield Thanksgiving Classic to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Friday the Eagles struggled for offense in the first half falling behind Fullerton 25-16 at the break. Despite scoring 46 second half points MSJC came up just short in their comeback effort, falling to the Hornets 63-62. Roosevelt Adams led the MSJC offense with 21 points he also pulled in a game high 9 rebounds. Tre Nottingham added 16 points in the loss and Orlando Quinones came off the bench to score 8.
The Eagles rebounded on Saturday as they cruised to a 75-22 win over Barstow College. MSJC took control from the opening tip and built a halftime lead of 32-9 behind six first half three pointers and solid defense. The Eagles held the Vikings to just 6 field goals in the game and forced Barstow into 37 turnovers. This time it was Nottingham along with Devin Fleming who led the MSJC scoring as they both had 13 points. 13 of the 14 Eagles that played in the game scored at least 2 points. Garrick Sherrod had 9 points while Kendall Brown scored 8 and Nick Pete collected a game high 7 rebounds.
Sunday MSJC once again had no trouble scoring early as they built a 45-30 halftime lead on the way to a 83-59 win over Porterville. Five Eagles scored in double figures Sunday led by Carl Brown's 14. Fleming added 13, Nottingham 12, Adams 11, and Quinones had 10. Adams secured a double double as he also hauled in a game high 12 rebounds while Nottingham dished out 5 assists.
The Eagles will return to action this week when the host the 2nd Annual Kiwanis Hoops and Crops Tournament Thursday through Saturday here on the San Jacinto Campus. Games begin at 1 pm on Thursday with the Eagles opening the tournament Thursday night at 7 pm against Lassen College.
