Dakota Downs had game highs in both points and rebounds as the MSJC men's basketball team played a very strong second half on their way to a 94-75 win over visiting College of the Desert Saturday.
Downs finished the day with 26 points and 17 rebounds as four Eagles reached double figures in scoring. Eric Lawton added 17 while Jammall Clark also had a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds while Jaree Crawford had 12.
The Eagles led for most of the first half, but couldn't pull away from a very scrappy COD team and held just a six point lead at 39-33 at halftime. COD rallied to tie the game five minutes into the second half before the Eagles took over for good on a three point basket by Taylor Bell that led to MSJC pulling away down the stretch.
The win improved the Eagles record to 12-4 overall on the season and 1-1 in Foothill Conference action, COD dropped to 2-12 and 0-2. The Eagles are on the road for two games this week, Wednesday at Barstow and Saturday at Rio Hondo. Both games can be heard on the AM 1620 or across the internet at msjc.edu. Wednesday's game tips off at 7:30 pm. MSJC returns home on Wednesday January 19th when they host Chaffey College at 7:30.
