MSJC Men Can't Hold On in Tough Loss to Palomar
The MSJC men's basketball team led most of the way Wednesday night, but lost in the final minute 70-67 to Palomar in a home Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division game.
The Eagles played a solid first half as they built a lead of 33-26 at the break. MSJC would push the lead all the way to 14 with 17:30 left to play in the game before the Comets started to mount a comeback. Overall on the night the contest was tied 8 times and the lead changed hands 8 times, but MSJC was still in the lead 67-63 with two minutes remaining. Palomar scored the final 7 points of the game as they capitalized on two MSJC missed shots and a pair of Eagle turnovers down the stretch.
Davon Sanders and A.J. Walton led the MSJC offense with 17 points a piece while DeAndre Snedecor added 10. The Eagles did out rebound the Comets on the night 41-33 with Jeremy Bonifacio pulling in a game high 10 boards. Sanders 8 rebounds and 4 assists to go along with his 17 points.
The loss drops the Eagles to 9-12 overall and 1-1 in PCAC North play while Palomar improved to 11-10 for the season and 1-1 in conference play. MSJC returns to action on Friday when they travel to Oceanside to take on Mira Costa. Friday's game is set to tip-off at 7 pm.
