MSJC Men Lose Close One in Conference Opener
The MSJC men's basketball team could not hold on to a late second half lead on Saturday night and lost their PCAC North opener on the road to San Diego Miramar 72-67.
The Eagles, who trailed by one point at halftime, rallied to lead by nine 58-49 with just under six minutes to play, but could not hold on down the stretch. MSJC's tied the game up for the last time with 40 seconds remaining when Carl Brown hit a three point shot to tie the game at 65 a piece, but the Jets were able to take advantage of free throws and an untimely turnover by MSJC to squeak out the victory.
Brown ended the night as the Eagles top scorer with 22 points, he also had 5 rebounds. Tre Nottingham recorded a double double for the Eagles with 20 points and 12 rebounds, he also had 5 assists in the loss. Jaryn Taylor had 8 points and 8 boards for MSJC.
The loss drops the Eagles to 14-9 overall on the season and 0-1 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play, while Miramar improved 15-5 on the season and 1-0 in conference action. The Eagles will return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to San Marcos to take on Palomar at 7 pm. Wednesday's game is part of a doubleheader with the women's team, the women's game is set to tip at 5 pm.
MSJC will return home on Saturday January 21st when they host Mira Costa at 3 pm.
