MSJC Men Need OT, Win 11th Straight

The MSJC men's basketball team needed overtime for the second time in three games on Friday, but they found a way to push their win streak to 11 with a 72-70 win over Grossmont in El KendallBrownforgmont2-16.jpg

The Eagles trailed by 7 at the end of the first half and then fell behind by as many as 15 with just over 13 minutes to play in the game before storming back to force overtime.  Devin Fleming led the comeback as he scored 15 of his game high 17 points in the second half and OT.  Kendall Brown was able to send the game into the extra period when he made a driving lay-up with just over 2 seconds remaining to tie the game at 58.  The Eagles then out scored the Griffons 14-12 in overtime to hang on for the crucial road win.

MSJC had three other players join Fleming in double figures as Brown finished with 14 and Tre Nottingham and Roosevelt Adams each had 12.  Adams also tied with Nick Pete for team high honors in rebounds with 7, Pete added 3 blocked shots.

MSJC is now 23-4 on the season and 5-0 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division games, while Grossmont fell to 14-10 and 2-3.  The Eagles have three regular season games remaining on the year and currently have a two game lead in the conference standings over second place Palomar.  MSJC will host Palomar in their next contest, Friday at home.  Friday night's game against the Comets will tip-off at 7 pm.
