MSJC Men Overcome Slow Start for OT Win
The MSJC men's basketball team shook off a poor shooting first half to come back and beat visiting Mira Costa College 82-69 in overtime Friday in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North
The Eagles struggled for points in the first half and had trouble containing the upstart Spartans as they fell behind at halftime 40-19. MSJC responded though in the second half as freshmen guards Tre Nottingham and Devin Fleming ignited an Eagle comeback. Nottingham's lay-up with seven seconds remaining in regulation tied the game at 67 a piece and forced overtime. MSJC rode the momentum of the second half comeback into overtime and went on a 15-0 run in the extra five minutes, before Mira Costa finally scored a bucket with 26 seconds left.
Nottingham scored 22 of his game high 24 points in the second half and overtime, while Fleming scored 16 of his 17 in the second 20 minutes. Nick Pete was extremely active on the night scoring 9 points, pulling down 11 rebounds and blocking 7 shots. Roosevelt Adams and Kendall Brown both added 8 points in the victory.
The win was the Eagles 9th in a row and improved their overall record on the season to 21-4 and their PCAC North mark to 3-0 on the year. The Spartans fell to 11-11 on the year and 1-2 in conference action. MSJC returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to San Diego Miramar for a 7 pm conference game.
