MSJC Men Set to Take on East LA in Regional Semi-Final
The MSJC men's basketball team advanced to the Southern California Regional semi-finals by virtue of their win on Friday night, and now are set to travel to Monterey Park Wednesday to take on
East Los Angeles College.
The Eagles, who entered the State play-offs as the #5 seed in the Southern Region, held off a determined Cypress squad on Friday to win 64-59 and improve their season mark to 26-5. MSJC won the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division crown for the third year in a row during the regular season and now have their sights set on making an appearance in the State Elite Eight. Standing in their way is the #4 seeded Huskies who will come into Wednesday's contest with a record of 25-3, they were co-champions of the South Coast Conference North Division. ELAC beat Cerritos at home in overtime on Saturday night 68-63 to advance to the Regional semis.
The Eagles are led by PCAC North Player of the Year Tre Nottingham, who had 16 points in MSJC's second round victory. Roosevelt Adams had a double double Friday night with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Devin Fleming contributed to the victory with 13 points. ELAC counters with SCC North co-Player of the Year Iziahiah Sweeny who will enter Wednesday's game averaging 15.3 points per game, he scored 12 in Saturday night's win over Cerritos. The Huskies Richard Bivens also had 12 on Saturday night and averages 11 points and 8.4 rebounds a game.
The winner of this contest will take on the winner of the Saddleback-Bakersfield game for a chance to move into the State Final Four. Wednesday's winners will play Saturday March 5th at the highest remaining seed's home gym. Tip-off for Wednesday night's game is set for 7 pm.
