The MSJC men's basketball team currently ranked #4 in the state took an early lead and held onto the rest of the night Wednesday for a 84-67 victory over San Bernardino Valley who entered the game ranked #11 in the state.
The Eagles shot the ball well in the first half on the way to building a 42-25 halftime lead. They also held their own on the boards out rebounding the bigger Wolverines on the night 47-41. SBVC would get as close as nine points early in the second half before the Eagles reestablished the lead and kept it in double digits the final 10 minutes of the game.
MSJC used a balanced scoring attack with four players reaching double figures led by 24 from Josh Gouch. Montreal Harris had a monster game with 22 points and a game high 18 rebounds. D'Anthony Peterson added a big boost for the Eagles off the bench scoring 15 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Taylor Bell also reached double figures despite playing limited minutes due to foul
trouble finishing with 11 on the night.
The victory improves MSJC to 12-3 on the season and 1-0 in Foothill Conference action while San Bernardino fell to 11-4 and 0-1. The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Barstow for a 3 pm game. MSJC returns home next Saturday January 14th when they host Chaffey at 1 pm.
