Men's Basketball Team Beats Rio; Pushes Streak to 10
The MSJC men's basketball team continued to roll on Saturday as they defeated Rio Hondo 75-56 in Whittier for their 10th straight victory. The Eagles have won 16 of their last 17 games and are unbeaten in Foothill Conference action at 6-0.
Saturday it was Jamar Cannon off the Eagles bench who scored a game high 22 points including 18 in the first half to pace the offense. Josh Gouch added 20 points and Montreal Harris continued to put up incredible numbers in conference play with 19 points and 18 rebounds. After a bit of a slow start the Eagles were able to build the halftime lead to 40-25 mostly on the strength of four three point baskets by Cannon. In the second half the Eagles maintained the lead throughout with the Roadrunners getting no closer than 12 points in the final 10 minutes. MSJC is now 17-3 overall and ranked #3 in the State.
The Eagles will return to the road this week for two key Foothill Conference match ups. Wednesday MSJC travels to Antelope Valley College who starts the week just one game behind the Eagles in the conference race at 5-1. San Bernardino Valley, MSJC's opponent on Saturday is also 5-1. Wednesday's game in Lancaster tips off at 7 pm.
